Wow, so do men hold hands there as a gesture of friendship?
I feel a bit illiterate for not knowing this, but I haven't heard of it. Here in Central Europe male friends never hold hands.

Yes, they do!
Seeing grown men holding hand is a common sight throughout the Indian Sub-continent and the Middle East.
But that's not all; imagine a guy sneaking up and bear-hugging his male friend from behind, then he lifts him up and spins him round and round in the middle of the road and no one even raises an eyebrow. That's how it is over here.
