Village Kid by MARX77 Village Kid by MARX77

Re-edited image from my three day visit to Pakistan in 2011.

My son and I, along with my cousin and his son, were at a village farm in Sargodha checking out the place, and this kid kept following me around.

And everywhere that I went,
the kid was sure to go!

Take a look:

Sargodha, Pakistan.

It was more than 25 years ago when I shot a very similar shot to this one... I am still looking for the negative. Lovely portrait!

Come on man, hurry up and find it! :eager:
Or wait, gimme your home address; I'm coming to Austria.
Then we can look for the negative together.

Thank you, my friend.

Faved...

Very good strong portrait here...!
You could have called it:
"The Actor Marlon Brando as a Youngster"...
and I would have believed it...
Well done...
Photographer and model are at ease...
there is a connection established...

What makes him so eager to follow you...?
From the other picture...
I see a rather boney little fellow...
small shoulders...and a big head...!
From this...I get...that he is not so strong...
so...he has to make do with his brains...!

He might well have been ill at younger age...
or just...
spending much time with females caring for him...
He has the look in his eyes like girls...studying...!
look into the eyes of the girl in other picture...
girls are much much clever at this age...
1 or 2 years ahead of boys...

You...working your way around...
occupied with a camera...
documenting...describing...
makes you different than other boys and men...
For him: You must know something else...!
and he is on your trail...to find out...what it is...
to harvest anything he can get...
to "sweeten" his life...

Editing is well done...
If I could make a suggestion:
you can darken the plank in the lower front of picture more...
This will bring More attention...more "feel" to the face...
cover the light bottom part with your hand ...
So...what do you think...?

Khuram...I am rambling away...
who am I...to blow against the wind...
But...I Really enjoyed this picture...!
Thank you...
Greetings as allways...Jakob.

Great observation and insight, Jakob!
Very impressive!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

You're quite right about the plank - and I was aware of that.
I tried darkening it, but it just turns pallid.
Perhaps if I added more vignette... what do you think?

Hello...Khuram...
Thank you for your reply...
About the plank...Wiki:
Vignetting in photography, any process by which there is loss in clarity towards the corners and sides of an image...

I do not think this meaning of "vignette" is needed...
loss of clarity will contradict...
the general clear crispness of picture...
Vignette in Gimp...
could mean darkening corners and sides...
but this would mean whole picture...not needed...
I will have to download Gimp to see for myself...

Never tried digital work on photos myself...
This is a question for Someone Else...

I can only suggest: making a new layer...(In Gimp)...
and paint a "light grey translucent" patch with unsharp edges...
that matches the area...
(This way you can always regret)...
pallid...sounds not good...!

In the old days...we gave the photopaper...
an extra amount of exposure...aprox 1/20 to 1/10...
and a soft edge...by moving our hands...
that hid the rest of picture...
making this part develop slighty darker...
"Burning an area" as in sunburn...

Greetings Jakob.

GIMP is a cool software! It's light, yet powerful.
And best of all; it's free!
It needs a little getting used to, of course,
but once you get the hang of it, it's one snappy photo-editor.

Something about his face and posture makes this look to me like an old World War Two photo of an American GI... and this is just a kid living his life somewhere. This photo makes me contemplate our world's future.
