Jan 19 - 2014, on a Sunday, while wandering aimlessly on the streets of Deira in Dubai, I noticed a crowd - and rather noisy one at that - had gathered on 9-A Street.
Now one wouldn't normally expect any kind of commotion coming from that area in particular, considering that this is where the Naif Police Station is located; so naturally I was intrigued enough to get off my usual route and investigate.

A group of French street performers had gathered at the entrance to the police station and decided to put on a little show.
I'm not entirely sure as to why the street performers were there in the first place, but they appeared to be waiting for something.
The two men and the woman in the center (part of the troupe management) were having a heated discussion.

My initial guess at the time was that the mini show may be in relation to the 'Dubai Shopping Festival 2014'; an annual event the Dubai Police have been actively involved with and has continued to support ever since the festival's inception in 1996.
But it became pretty clear later on that this was an impromptu show borne out of boredom.
And boy, what a show it was!
I would also like to point out that the UAE is not only a strong supporter, but is also officially an observer member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) since 2010.

As for the show. Well...
There was no music, no drums playing, heck, no one was even clapping their hands. All they (the performers) did there was smile and wave. And then, the stiltwalkers who couldn't stand it any longer, so to speak, tried adding some life to what was quickly becoming the dullest street performance anyone has ever witnessed - by 'anyone' I mean moi.
Everyone else were busy taking pictures of ze lovely French girls.

So the stiltwalkers marched...

And they marched...

...Till ze policemen finally came out, and asked the performers to leave.
Although the senior officer (far right in khaki uniform) wasn't amused, the other policemen (in green) were really enjoying themselves.
Note: Taking photos of on-duty policemen and posting them online is not permitted due to security reasons.
But since only part of their uniform is visible and not their faces, I can post the above photograph.

Thus the wonderful French street performers quietly made their way towards the bazaar.

And the cellphone wielding crowd followed.

With a mother who was French I beleive I have he right so say that the French are more than somewhat peculiar while at the same time believing they are standard making them even more peculiar.
